The bearings on the rack, rather than allowing rotational movement, facilitate the rack to slide left and right in response to the rotation of the pinion.

Lastly are the steering mechanisms which are the inner and outer tie rods and steering knuckles. The steering knuckles are hard-mounted to the wheel, which assembles on a pivot point. Lateral motion from the rack pushes the knuckle away from the vehicle or toward the vehicle, causing the wheel to pivot, creating steering. The inner and outer tie rods unite together, acting as an extension of the rack, transferring the motion.
